Nice old stove set DickM! Duct tape on the rim of the cup too You can see it gets some use hahaha I still have the original cup and handle somewhere here, but I use a modern GSI Glacier cup which slips right over the top of the stove like the original. Is the pump attachment simply for cold climate use? I’ve never had a problem priming the stove in the conventional manner where it pressurises the tank via heat, but then again the coldest I’ve used this stove is -5 degrees C 23 deg F.

We just don’t get proper cold here. That original Sigg bottle is awesome.

By Frank Ross Outdoor Gear Expert When you have a problem with your Coleman liquid fuel or dual fuel stove there are only a few areas that can be problematic, and even the mechanically challenged can fix them fairly easily. Simplicity in design and ease of repair has contributed to the Coleman stove ‘s popularity and longevity so don’t let a minor problem interrupt your camp cuisine. When your stove fails to perform, there are three common problems areas where you should target your troubleshooting efforts: Fuel Tank Issues Assuming that you’ve filled your tank with fresh fuel, the two most common tank-related problems are failure to create pressure and failure to hold that pressure once it has been achieved.

When a stove is operating properly you should not have to pump the tank again once a blue flame has been attained. Failure to Hold Pressure If you’re able to pump up the tank but find that it leaks down quickly, there’s a simple technique to determine what is causing the leak. Watch carefully for telltale bubbles.

Apply the soapy mixture to the hole in the end of the plunger shaft after making sure the valve is closed , around the shaft and around the brass control valve where it screws into the top of the tank. Turn the tank upside down and check for bubbles around the underside of the filler cap, as well as the valve seat at the bottom end of the pump shaft.

I love the stove, but it does have a couple of quirks. I was very happy with its performance, so decided to purchase the stove and a second lantern. I am planning a camping trip soon where the stove will be put through a good workout. For example, on lighting, expect a yellow flame to around the height of the open lid about 1 foot high!

This is not an issue if you are expecting it, but casual onlookers can get a surprise.

VINTAGE COLEMAN LANTERN RED A SINGLE MANTLE DATED WITH ORIGINAL BOX. Up for bid is a Vintage Red COLEMAN Lantern A, Dated in itâe(tm)s Original Box with Original Pamphlet & Package of Mantles.

However, the generater and globe are new as is the pump leather and the mantles. The fuel is Coleman Camp Gas and is from a new can. Lighting is accomplished with a Coleman spark igniter that pokes up through the match hole on the base of the lantern. Ignition is pretty quick. Poof, lamp lights, wait a minute to warm up and open the vale all of the way.

If needed, rotate the cleaning needle one or two turns and you should have light for the next 6 to 8 hours. The lamp put out a brillian white light with a mild hiss of pressurized gas. There is very little odor and not too much heat produced given the brilliance of the light. Not often but enough to know you are working with gas. All parts except the globe are metal built to last. That this lamp is pushing 50 and still works well dispite years of hard use speaks to the durability of Coleman lanterns.

Noting that there has been lots of reporting of pole shift lately, to the point where the phenomenon is actually causing real-world issues such as temporary airport closures , a deeper investigation was in order. After transferring years of north pole position data from the NOAA Geo Data Center, configuring it to fit in an Excel spreadsheet, adding a complicated formula to determine exact distance between 2 sets of latitude-longitude coordinates, applying the formula to each data point in the series, and then finally plotting it all in a visual graph, it is alarming to discover the amount of magnetic pole shift — just over the past 10 to 20 years.

Here is one very interesting fact… Since , the magnetic pole shift has more than doubled every 50 years. That is pretty significant. Here is another very interesting fact… During the past years, the pole shift has been in the same direction. The following fact is even more astonishing… During the past 10 years, the magnetic north pole has shifted nearly half of the total distance of the past 50 years!

Coleman 214A700 Kerosene Lantern + Custom Made Box

I recently purchased a Petromax nickel plated brass lantern. The light was fantastic, but about four hours after turning it on, flames started shooting out the sides and about 12 inches above the lantern. Just before I picked it up, intending to throw it outside our cooking tent, it exploded. Has anyone had a similar problem or do you have an explanation for why this happened?

Chronologically from Original Model Coleman U. The American version depicted here, dated December , has a nickel-plated fount and a painted red top. In the US, this was the forerunner to Coleman’s longest-lasting single-mantle lantern: Selling from to , this unit shipped in the millions. The final models and early As both had this same color scheme – a red ventilator top with a green-painted fount. This aesthetic led to the nickname “Christmas Lantern” given by its collectors.

The main distinguishment of the two is that the A, pictured here, has a Coleman decal on its fount; the most significant change is that the fount of the A was steel as opposed to brass. The A is a common single-mantle lantern; all five of our Christmas lanterns are dated various months of The fount is nickel-plated brass, but models in were painted green instead. This lantern has never been lit and comes with all of its original packaging, which is in great condition. The model ” ” denotes that it is candlepower.

This one is labeled “Col-Max” on the fount and has some sort of Arabic or Turkish writing, as it was sold in the Middle East. This one is undated, but was made in Hong Kong in the late s or early s, several years after the inception of this model. It went from Toronto to somewhere in Turkey, and eventually found its way to a seller in North Vietnam at the time of the Vietnam War.

Coleman – Kerosene Mantle Pressure Lanterns. Coleman’s model lanterns are at the top of their league when it comes to Coleman’s largest, brightest and best built lanterns. The new Coleman mantles are lousy when compared to older iterations. Today’s versions now burn a dingy yellow and cast a nauseating yellow light with far less intensity. The removal of the naturally occurring radioactive chemical “thorium” has been eliminated from the Coleman mantle manufacturing processes, due to public overreaction to something with extremely low amounts of radioactivity.

Luckily, I was alerted to a source for great new Peerless thorium coated mantles.

Review: Coleman – Kerosene Mantle Pressure Lanterns. Coleman’s model lanterns are at the top of their league when it comes to Coleman’s largest, brightest and best built lanterns. They are rated at + candlepower and equivalent in output to W of incandescent lighting.

Designed for farm use, it was an unintuitive piece of equipment, but also a starting point. At a whopping fourteen pounds before fuel, eight-inch diameter, and twenty-inch height, it was hard to carry. The biggest contributors to the nickel-plated brass lantern’s excessive weight were its two-quart fuel capacity and enormous glass globe. Despite the setbacks, the lantern sold well – after all, a candlepower portable lighting machine was enticing for many workers of the time.

Coleman, however, was not happy with its product’s size, and quickly went to redesigning it. Given their rarity, despite our having three, these lanterns sell for a good deal of money today. It holds one less pint of fuel a total of 3 , a necessary sacrifice to reduce the size. The AL shipped at six pounds, less than half of its big brother, and measures 14 inches tall by 6 inches in diameter.

The chimney was crafted of lighter-weight mica and the fount and top were still plated with nickel. The handle is wood. There is also a small slot underneath the globe rest where one could insert a match to light the lantern. Despite all the upgrades, less than 13, were sold across Coleman and its Yale and Sunshine subsidiaries in the s.
